Associated Press photographer Jae Hong was kicked and struck with sticks by people attending an immigration protest in Los Angeles, California, on June 9, 2025, the outlet reported.

The demonstration was one of several that began June 6 in response to federal raids in and around Los Angeles of workplaces and areas where immigrant day laborers gathered, amid the Trump administration’s larger immigration crackdown.

According to the AP, Hong was able to escape serious injury because he was wearing protective gear. It’s unclear whether the attack was targeted at him for working as a journalist, and Hong did not respond to a request for comment.
